AGRICULTURAL PEST MANAGEMENT

The two most important pest control issues for the farmer is FLY control and RODENT control.

Over two years ago, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stepped into the agricultural arena and mandated that farmers could no longer place rodenticide or other rodent control devices inside of a barn.  Farmers are allowed to self treat the exterior of the barn, just no longer the inside.  Only a certified commercial applicator is now permitted to place rodenticide and bait stations inside of a barn.  Primarily this is for the protection of the animal as well as a way to minimize any potential secondary poisoning if a farm animal is then consumed by humans (e.g.-cows).

FLY control is a significant issue on the farm.  When calves and cows should be focused on gaining weight, nuisance flies will cause them to expend energy on swatting these flies away.  For instance, a fly can cause a theoretical 20 pound weight loss for a calf by the calf having to  use energy, muscle, and caloric intake to combat the fly.  While farmers are able to use pass through pesticidal agents for the cows, this does not eliminate the issue overall.

AAA Enviro-Pest Management will work with you to develop an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) issue that addresses these common issues and other potential issues such as groundhogs or moles that cause holes in the earth that is a potential hazards to animals grazing in the field.
