BATS
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania there are three main bat species, the Brown Bat (Common bat), the Indiana bat (Endangered Species), and the Small Footed Bat (Threatened Species). There are small distinguishing characteristics of these bats that can easily cause the Indiana Bat and Small Footed Bat to be mistaken for the Brown Bat, thereby potentially killing bats that are on the protected species list. Additionally, the fact that the Indiana Bat specifically is often found to roost with small brown bats it is even more difficult to properly identify the species.
Given that the transference of rabies from these bats are minimal, it is our position that it is more beneficial to place bat houses throughout residential areas, business locations, and other facilities. Due to the highly beneficial nature of bats to the environment, and the minimal transference rate (since these are NOT vampire bats more common to South and Central America) AND the likelihood that a protected bat species could be mistaken for the common bat, AAA Enviro does NOT agree to the killing of bats. It is our policy to capture and release bats that need to be removed from buildings and relocate to their natural habitat such as in a state park.
