Bed Bugs are alive and well, and are incredible hitchhikers. Their small size and hardiness make it easier for them to travel from place to place, picking up blood nourishment along the way from travelers and soldiers. Bed Bugs have made a strong comeback in the U.S., and are increasingly prevalent in homes, apartments, hotels, and dormitories. You can pick up Bed Bugs in any setting, and the presence of these pests is not a sanitation issue such is the case with cockroaches. The cleanest home or hotel can still have Bed Bugs. Bed Bugs can also be found in taxi cabs, buses, movie theater seats, airplanes, moving vans, sofas, chairs, and even electronics such as TVs, computers, and microwaves.
Bed Bugs feed on human blood and usually bite people when they are sleeping. They love soft fabrics and wood furniture but don’t limit themselves to these areas. Bed Bug bites can be itchy and painful and may cause allergic reactions.
These bugs like to hid in dark locations such as:
-
Cracks, crevices, seams, nooks and crannies
-
Floorboards and baseboards
-
Mattresses, bed frames, headboards and bedding
-
Backpacks, luggage and handbags
-
Clothing, shoes, socks, and hats
-
On people
The scariest aspect of figuring out where bed bugs originate is actually in their breeding cycle:
-
One mature female can lay five eggs per day and up to 500 eggs in her lifetime
-
They multiply and mature quickly, which creates hundreds more females that then can also lay eggs
-
They can go up to 18 months without feeding and manage to survive
While there is nothing that can truly be done to prevent you from coming in contact with Bed Bugs, there are some PROactive steps that can be taken to lessen your exposure. A well implemented Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan can lessen your exposure to these insects. Additionally, we sell ActiveGuard mattress liners that are an insecticidal barrier to these pests.
BED BUGS & FLEAS
These two pests can be the peskiest creatures to enter your home or business, not to mention the most difficult to manage and get rid of. Often bed bugs hide in places difficult for you to see, and you may think that the air fogging product you used to get rid of fleas worked only to find weeks later that you again have fleas.
Why? The outer shell of the bed bug is resistant, and flea eggs are so hard that no pesticide can kill them until they actually open up. Therefore, you need a PROactive approach that will have a residual long-term effect that surprises those eggs once they hatch.

BED BUGS
BED BUG TREATMENT
How bed bugs are treated is largely dependent on the population levels that are present. For instance, finding one bed bug does not necessarily mean that you have an actual bed bug infestation. However, this bug can survive several months until its next feeding and it is extremely important to ensure that the entire area has been properly inspected and treated as necessary.
There are differing opinions on what the most effective way is to treat bed bugs. Some Pest Management Professionals will tell you that chemicals labeled by the EPA for such purpose is the best way to treat. Other professionals will tell you that the only way to treat bed bugs is through the use of heat application. Despite the disparities between approaches, a professional should never tell you to do nothing.
Our Philosophy
At AAA Enviro Pest we believe that the best treatment for low to moderate bed bug sightings and/or infestations, is a multi-layered approach that includes the use of:
-
a properly implemented Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program already in place before the bed bug arrives
-
HEPA-filtered backpack vacuums
-
ActiveGuard mattress liners
-
Disassembly of all furniture, removal of cheesecloth
-
Removal of wall art
-
Use of EPA registered and approved chemicals
-
Proper laundering of all linens, stuffed animals, etc.
-
Sealing and treating of all electronics for treatment
-
Treatment of all outlets, cracks, crevices, and wall spaces
-
Removal of wall paper borders (for severe infestations)
-
Commercial air dryers
In some cases, infestations maybe severe enough to require the use of heat treatment in combination with the above treatment methods. However, there are a number of reasons why this is not our preferred method. Some reasons include:
-
heat cannot be specifically targeted
-
all surfaces must be heated to over 120 degrees farenheit, and most sprinklers are set to go off at 118 degrees (Plumbers cause additional cost to treatment)
-
there is a limit to areas that heaters are capable of reaching, thus allowing bed bugs to avoid treatment by receeding into more obscure areas
The best way to truly know if you have bed bugs and how they can best be treated is to call a pest management company that has experience with these persistent pests. AAA Enviro Pest has performed bed bug treatments for residences, hoteliers, government buildings, housing authorities, and office spaces. Recently, we treated over 1,1100 bed bug rooms within a 30 day period.

One of the most common pests found in homes are found on the very pets that are a part of the family. The common flea is attracted to our furry friends (such as dogs or cats) primarily because it is easy for them to grab on and hide underneath the coat of fur.
Many homeowners, once they discover there are fleas in their home, decide to purchase “foggers” at their local hardware store. Not only do these foggers leave an odor behind, but the homeowner has to attempt to cover all belongings and then wipe down all cabinetry of counters. And after that entire treatment, the homeowner realizes that the treatment didn’t work, and the cycle begins again.
Why are fleas so difficult to get rid of?
Flea eggs are extremely hard, and insecticidal treatments cannot penetrate the egg. Foggers can work as a contact killer for active fleas but not the eggs themselves. This is why shortly after treating your home yourself, you still find fleas. These fleas were actually present during the treatment but were in the egg stage and opened after you already attempted the eradication. Also, flea eggs hatch at variable rates which is extremely affected by temperature and the humidity of the air. Hot and humid conditions quickly accelerate the process while colder conditions prolong the length of time it takes for eggs to hatch by a couple of months. Needless to say, treating at the precise time all life stages of the flea can be affected is near impossible.
Why are your flea treatments different?
We only use foggers in extreme conditions and only at the exact stage in the life cycle of the flea when it will be most effective. Our treatments include:
-
Pest Management Professionals (PMPs) sweeping your entire floor areas in the home with a HEPA filtered backpack vacuum. This removes as many Flea eggs as possible even prior to treatment.
-
Then, our PMPs use a people and pet-safe spray on all contact areas. This spray has a 210 day residual. What is so important about this residual is that it will actually remain on the service, killing eggs once they open as well as serving as a contact killer for mature fleas.
-
Using commercial dryers, we creating air circulation to more readily dry all surfaces once they have been properly treated.
IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO SIMPLY TREAT YOUR HOME. If you have pets, they must be treated, or you risk a re-infestation. Currently, AAA Enviro-Pest Management is the only pest company that will actually treat your animals for fleas.
Using a flea comb and pet-safe spray, we will comb your animals and safely treat them for fleas. All fleas that are removed are immediately placed in Isopropyl Alcohol that immediately kills them and prevents further flea distribution in your home. Special care is taken with especially young or elderly pets. After the end of the treatment, we leave you with a spot spray that can be used to lightly treat areas on the pet once we are gone until the entire infestation has been eliminated.
